Statment Shirts
Now whether you're a male or a female, either way it doesn't matter, because the trend that I'm going to be concentrating on in today's blogpost is statement shirts. Now statement shirts are something which has come back into fashion over the pat 8 months or so in an attempt it seems, to create an edgy vintage look in modern day fashion. Now love them or hate them these statement shirts highlight something which we don't see often with in the fashion industry, this being the fact that its a trend that works for both Men and Women; it's a unisex trend which seems to have everybody wearing their dad's and mum's 80's inspired over sized shirts on a regular basis. Now I out of everybody I know, love vintage clothing and love finding new little bits and bobs that nobody else I know will necessary have or wear, but I do kind of draw a straw under this trend; however there is a way of creating this trend without necessarily looking like you're wearing, as some people may say, a curtain for a shirt!
Now I'm by no ways or means against oversized vintage looking shirts because some people can get away with wearing them and look amazing in them, like my friend Lucy from back home, who always looks amazing no matter what she wears, has an array of these oversized vintage statement shirts and the way she wears them is just bang on trend, I don't think she could style them any better even if a professional stylist put together her daily outfits! However I have never actually tried one of these shirts on myself or even own one for that matter, which is a bit contradictory I know but I just never really thought they'd look that good on me but maybe I'll try and experiment with them a bit more as they're a great way for adding colour and a new and different pattern to your everyday wardrobe and easily add that little bit of something different to your look. However I understand that not everybody, like myself, with fall head of heels for this trend just because of the typical "ugly" shirts that people relate to the statement shirt trend, so in todays OOTD I'm going to show you how you can still wear this trend without having to raid you mum or dads wardrobe or a charity shop for some hideous looking 80's patterned shirt which has more than likely seen a few moth balls in the past 30 years! with this in mind, here's todays outfit breakdown;
Starting from the top and working my way down the body as usual, first things first is the statement shirt! Now this isn't a typical "Ugly" vintage statement shirt, but it's a shirt which is a great pattern and also a great colour for this time of year and could easily be worn with an array of things! Now in today's OOTD, I've worn this navy patterned shirt with my black cord pinafore, as it doesn't really matter what shirt you team with this pinafore, long sleeved, short sleeved, patterned or plain it always seems to work! However statement shirts like mine also look good with an array of garments including buttoned up and left to float loose with a pair of high-waisted skinny black jeans combined with a leather jacket; now there was a girl in my visual studies lecture this morning wearing a similar outfit/ combination as I've just described and she looked bang on trend and also still super snug for this dreary day in Huddersfield. I would say that I find this style of look super easy to get away with wearing myself but after an unfortunate trip on the way home from a BBQ the other week, I no longer have a pair of black high-waisted skinny jeans! Its fair to say I am lost without them, but if you've got a pair of black skinny's and are less of a girly girl when it comes to fashion, then I'd definitely recommend going and getting you hands on a statement blouse and teaming these two garments together for a Autumn/Winter look that's bang on trend!
Next, is of course my famous black cord pinafore! Now like I've said already in this post, and more than likely in many posts before this one, as far as pinafores are concerned, this black one of mine included, they go with everything and anything and look amazing during the colder months as they add that little bit of something different to your everyday wardrobe, as pinafores don't seem to be an item of clothing that that many people seem to have in their wardrobes, don't ask me why, they just don't! But if you're one of those people that doesn't have a pinafore already in your Autumn/Winter wardrobe or you're life for that matter, then go out now and get yourself one, because I can honestly say you'll wear it over and over again this season and wont get bored of it! I've had both my denim pinafore and my black cord pinafore for over a year now and they're still an item of clothing which continues to keep making it's way out of my wardrobe and onto my body on a weekly basis, simply because they look good with an array of my jumper collection, which was basically just made for this time of year!
Finally to finish of this Autumn/Winter look simply team with your faithful leather jacket; now my leather jacket isn't a garment which I've blogged about before but I think that everybody should have one! I honestly love my leather jacket and it's not only just perfect for the Autumn/Winter season, but it's also perfect for the slightly colder days that we have in the Spring and Summer, because after all, I do still live in England! Leather jackets also look good with an array of combinations of outfits such as skinny's, skirts, shorts and they also add just that little bit of edge to an otherwise considered "girly" outfit, like you could consider mine is today! So if you haven't got a leather jacket definitely put one on your winter wish list, because you'll honestly get so much wear out of it, its unreal! Especially because leather jackets are one of those types of garments that never go out of fashion, what more could you want from a casual jacket?
To complete this look simply team with either a black handbag or a black bucket bag like mine and either a pair of pixy boots or some flats like I've got on in todays OOTD. If you want to add some more colour to your outfit simply add a statement lipstick and nail varnish to match and you're well on your way to yet another successful Autumn/Winter look, after all it's the small things that matter the most!
So that's another OOTD post, what do you think of the statement shirt trend? Let me know what you think and if there's anything you'd like me to style e.t.c. I shall be back tomorrow with the return of wish list Wednesday so stay tuned!
