Steady Progression - Lookbook Layout

After meeting up again after all contributing our own individual efforts to the first initial layout of book 1 of the mini book series, which were all placed together to produce the first mini book, to create a basic layout which could be used across all of the 8 mini book's within the series, it became very clear that there were too many people doing one job, and that no two peoples artistic directions flowed alongside the other.

So, at this point, we decided to split the group into two different mini groups, focusing on the strengths of each particular individual as to what group/part of the project would suit them best, one being the design group, which would focus on the production both technically and physically of the 8 mini-books and the other, the research group, which would focus on the other task we had been given as part of the group project, the website, where each of them would look at a different topic such as slow fashion, which ultimately impacted the project or was the reason behind the project.

I was part of the three membered design team, due to my own personal background within design and being able to use computer/design aided software such as Photoshop and InDesign, thanks to my undergrad degree to create the mini book's. Two of us, myself and Kayleigh, were appointed the roles of editors, which basically meant we would over see the design work,  Ziqi, the other member of the design team, would create due being best suited to this role, due to his background within graphic design, and help to make the final decisions on such things as fonts, spacing, layout, paper type etc.

Once the ball had got rolling and after a few more slight layout changes, we came to our final layout a matter of weeks later, taking us slightly over our mini-deadline we'd created in finishing the first initial book layout for the other 7 books, but sometimes its better to take more time initially, in order for the final item to turn out how you want it, instead of rushing it and haven't to start from scratch again later on down the line.

The final layout, is very simple, with a lot of white space a lot like the cover image of this blogpost, this was done in order for the attention not to be taken too much away from the main message behind the books, and its content, by having a busy background or over detailed font. When the books are printed, some fabric page inserts will be inserted to add extra detail and texture, but not in a way, that once again, will distract too heavily from the context and ultimate message behind the mini book's.

Moving forward from finalising the layout template for all 8 of the mini book's, the remaining 6  were divided equally between the three of us, due to the time restraints we have in order to get them checked over by Mila, for any grammatical errors and for one to at least be printed before our presentation on the 18th of April. I have no concerns in this being achievable within the time frame we have left, and am pleased with the overall outcome currently.
